"There's another way" - Get Connected with Vispa's CityWireless Superfast Broadband for Home. No phone or cable line required!

CityWireless by Vispa is the alternative way to connect to the Internet. Superfast speeds up to 60Mbps and no phone or cable line required. Sounds too good to be true right? Wrong!

CityWireless is an outdoor wireless network built by Vispa which has been rolled out to several areas across the North West. We've worked with local councils to identify areas where existing broadband infrastructure is either slow or non-existent.

By installing a small antenna on your property, we're able to deliver superfast speeds with unquestionable reliability. Your antenna connects to one of our nearby masts which in-turn connects onto our core network via a dedicated fibre. We call it Fibre to the Mast or "FTTM".

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?
We install a small antenna on your property that connects to a nearby mast. We call it Fibre to the Mast technology or "FTTM".
How reliable is it?
There's a common perception that outdoor wireless technology is unreliable especially when the weather is bad. While this may have been the case ten years ago, technology has significantly improved and outdoor wireless is more reliable than ever. We regularly exceed 99.9% uptime every month which is probably more reliable than your landline broadband.
How fast will my connection be?
This very much depends on a few factors such as how far your property is from our mast & if you have line of sight from the highest point on your roof. When our engineer arrives, he will test and/or advise you of the speed you will receive before the installation is carried out. The majority of our customers achieve the advertised up to 60Mbps speed but if for any reason it is less than 20Mbps, you will have the opportunity to cancel the installation on the day.
How small is the antenna?
We use a range of customer antennas but as a general rule they are 29x8x3cm plus the mount.
How quickly can I have it installed?
Our installation lead time is typically 10-14 working days from order. If there's an earlier installation slot, we'll give you a call!
How long does the installation take?
Our fully trained installers will carry out the installation within 2 hours. We'll allocate you an AM or PM appointment slot. AM appointment slots are 8am to 1pm and PM slots are 1pm to 5pm.
Is it good for gaming?
Latency on our wireless network is actually lower (better) than on a typical BT broadband connection. Pingtest.net grades our wireless network as a grade A network. The highest available.
What kind of router will I need?
Our network uses PPPoE for authentication so any PPPoE compatible router with an RJ45 WAN port will work fine. Don't forget, your installation includes a free 300Mbps wireless router. If you need something more powerful most cable routers are compatible.
How does the usage allowance work?
To ensure our network doesn't suffer from the 6pm slowdown syndrome, our tariff's allow a generous monthly allowance. Any data download or uploaded during peak hours (8am to 11.59pm) is counted towards your monthly allowance. Any data uploaded or downloaded outside of these hours isn't counted and is completely unlimited. If you're a keen downloader, we simply ask you to do it overnight (midnight to 7.59am). Any additional peak data will be charged at 99p per Gb. We provide daily usage statistics in our "Your Account" portal as well as weekly email updates.
Can I move my phone number to VoIP?
We're finding more and more customers don't require a telephone line. We're able to provide you with a router which has a Internet Phone connection on the back which allows you to connect a standard phone to the service. We can transfer your landline number to Vispa's internet phone service leaving you free to cancel your landline whilst retaining your telephone number. £40 Setup & VoIP line rental is £5.99 per month or £8.99 with unlimited calls to UK landlines. Calls to mobiles are 6ppm.
If something goes wrong, do Vispa charge for engineers?
We understand that additional charges are somewhat unwelcome. If there's a problem, we will do our very best to resolve the fault over the phone and carry out checks to identify where the problem lies. If the problem is a faulty antenna, outdoor cable or router we will replace it free of charge. If the problem is a result of customer miss-wiring or miss-configuration of your wireless router a call out charge of £59 will be automatically applied to your account.
What does your installation fee cover?
Our standard installation charge covers our engineering time (up to 2 hours) and a cable run no more than 15 meters between the roof antenna and your wireless router. In the unlikely event that additional charges apply, you will be informed on the day of installation and be given the right to cancel or go-ahead. Additional time is charged at £50 per hour and additional cable is charged at £2 per additional meter.
